Highland Park Tennis Court Update

Serving! The Township is excited to announce the opening of the new tennis court in Highland Park! The two old courts needed significant repair and did not provide what residents were looking for: a regulation court on an appropriately sized surface, with a total fence enclosure. The Township staff, in coordination with the Recreation and Parks Board, worked over the past two years to develop a plan and secure funding. By constructing the new court where the old ‘back court’ was located, the removal of the ‘front court’ paralleling Chatham Road has also created additional open space in the park for residents to use and enjoy. Thank you to residents for your patience and we hope this new court will create more recreation and cherished memories for many years to come.

Normally this is the time of year that the nets are taken down and stored for the winter. However, since there may be some folks eager to play on the new court, Parks Maintenance staff will leave the net in place for a while longer. Additionally, while the court itself has been completed, there is still work to be done. Tree trimming close to the new fence along Chatham Road, extending the sidewalk from the western edge of the park up to the tennis court, new tree planting, and a reconstruction of the handicapped parking will on be on the schedule for staff to complete as scheduling and weather permits. Additional signs will also be posted in the next few weeks noting the camera surveillance, acknowledgement of grant funding for the project, and rules for court usage.
